This is a lengthy message with a large amount of information, so please read carefully.
The Governor has issued a “Stay at Home” order beginning Monday evening. Therefore we will be opening the school Saturday, March 28th from 10 am-2 pm and Sunday, March 29th from Noon-3pm for computer pick-up for elementary families (as well as any middle or high school student) in need of a device. You will also be able to access the building to pick up personal belongings if needed. During the “Stay at Home” order, the school will have a cabinet located outside the main entrance to the lower building for all families to access as needed. Inside the cabinet will be food, books for students, and a place to leave work packets, We encourage you to take advantage of these supplies. Our school building will not be open for families after this weekend until the “Stay at Home” order is lifted. However, our school will still be in operation. You may call or email us with any questions, concerns or needs, and we will quickly respond.
Thank you to all of the parents that responded to our google survey. If you have not responded, please do it by Sunday night. Your feedback is very important to us as we attempt to meet your needs. The link to the survey is found below. We understand that many families are facing unique challenges and are here to support you in any way possible. I encourage you to talk to your PAA with specific needs you may have. Thank you again for your attention to the Remote Learning Survey.
Attached to this email you will find a detailed copy of our remote learning plan as well as our proposed calendar for the remainder of the year. Some of the main points of the plan include details regarding classwork, grades, and attendance. Most of our work will be happening online. If you have specific needs, such as a need to have materials printed, please notify your PAA. The state has NOT provided guidance on the expectation of “year-end” grades (for promotion or retention) for students in grades K-11 at this time. Student health and wellbeing will continue to be our priority as we do our best to keep students engaged in learning. We have very specific information for our Seniors regarding graduation requirements that will be released on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. The good news is our school year will finish on time, with our last day on May 29th, and graduation still planned for June 6, 2020. We will not be extending our school year into the summer. We are not able to provide guidance around summer camps at this time but will keep you posted as time grows closer. Our website will be updated by the end of the weekend with tutorials and other helpful links for at-home learning.
Our counselors are available for families as needed. Please contact your counselor via email and she will be happy to reach out to you.
In an effort to mainstream communication, I will develop a “Frequently Asked Questions” document that will be housed on our webpage and will be sent out on Sundays as part of “This Week at Falls Lake Academy” information.
If you have any suggestions or questions, please let us know. We are very thankful to all of our families for the work you are doing at home to keep our Firebirds learning.
